Cat's Eye

by mojacar @ Wednesday, May. 20, 2009 - 22:08:53

by Margaret Atwood, a Canadian writer.

Elaine Risely, a painter, returns to Torento to find herself overwhelmed by her past. Childhood memories, unbearable betrayals and cruelties, surface relentlessly, forcing her to confront the spectre of Cordelia, once her best friend and tormentor, who has haunted her for forty years.

That is what it says on the back of the book, and that is what it does. It is an unusual book, different writing style. i enjoyed it, she describes what it is like to be eight years old, and upwards.

Margaret Atwood is one of the great modern writers. I read a couple of her books a few years ago and the imagery, atmosphere and ideas stuck with me. I hadn't heard of this one.

Hi Tom, I think this one may be her first book. As she was an author I hadn't known, I looked her up on the Internet.

It seems to have been published just after The Handmaid's Tale (probably her most famous book) as far as I can see. It looks like she started it earlier and finished it later. I'd like to read it after your description.

I have read most of her books. I have to be in the right mood. I think one of my favorites of hers is Oryx and Crake.

I agree - I really enjoy her books when I read them but I have to be in the right mood otherwise I just get fed up with them!

I think I will be able to get the Oryx and the Crake from the library next time, they seemed to have a few copies.
